Trump warns Nigeria with army action for "killing of Christians"
Posting on Truth Social, Trump stated:
"If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, 'guns-a-blazing.'"
The warning came a day after Trump claimed that Christianity faces an “existential threat” in Nigeria, blaming “radical Islamists” for what he described as “mass slaughter.” He further instructed the Department of War to prepare for possible action, adding:
"If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians!"
Trump urged the Nigerian government to act quickly, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Reports note that his statements align with right-wing US lawmakers who portray Nigeria’s ongoing conflicts as religiously motivated attacks on Christians. Experts, however, argue that such a portrayal is misleading, cautioning that the unrest in Nigeria is driven by complex political, ethnic, and economic factors, and cannot be simplified as solely a religious conflict, according to reports.
