Iran’s Leader Comments on Nuclear Talks with U.S.
The Iranian President issued his assessment via X on Sunday, referencing indirect negotiations his delegation held with U.S. representatives in Muscat, Oman's capital city, on Friday. Regional intermediaries facilitated the encounter, which Pezeshkian credited to follow-up work by "friendly" governments throughout West Asia. He underscored that diplomatic channels remain Iran's preferred mechanism for conflict resolution.
At a national conference in Tehran Sunday, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi—who spearheaded Iran's negotiating team during Friday's session—delivered a defiant message: "No one can tell us what to have and what not to have."
Araghchi dismissed nuclear weapons ambitions while categorically rejecting external pressure tactics, declaring: "If they speak to Iranian people using the language of force, we will respond to them with the same language. However, if they talk to us using the language of respect, their response will be given with the same language."
The diplomatic contact occurred against a backdrop of escalating Middle East tensions, including expanded American military deployments and corresponding Iranian readiness measures.
Assessing the outcome, Araghchi stated: "In general, I can say that it was a good start. However, the continuation of the process depends on the two sides' consultations in their capitals and their decisions about how to continue it."
