Trump Rules Out Kurdish Participation in Iran Conflict
According to reports, speculation had emerged in recent days suggesting that the US administration had been communicating with Kurdish armed factions in Iraq and offering assistance as tensions with Tehran escalated.
While speaking with journalists aboard Air Force One during a flight to Miami, Trump explained that although Washington maintains strong ties with the Kurdish groups, it has urged them not to take part in the war.
“We’re very friendly with the Kurds, as you know, but we don’t want to make the war any more complex than it already is,” said Trump.
The president indicated that Kurdish groups had shown readiness to participate in the conflict but said he had directly advised them against doing so.
“I don’t want the Kurds going in. I don’t want to see the Kurds get hurt, get killed,” he said.
Trump also suggested that the outcome of the conflict could significantly influence Iran’s future political and territorial landscape. Responding to a question about whether the country’s borders would remain the same after the war, he said, “That I can’t tell you. Probably not.”
He further hinted that the United States might favor political changes within Tehran’s leadership, explaining that Washington hopes “to pick a president that’s not leading them into war.”
Trump additionally asserted that recent US military strikes have greatly damaged Iran’s leadership structure, according to officials familiar with the situation.
