BELLEVUE, WA, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Patients in Washington living with migraine and other headache disorders now have a new path to specialized care as Bellevue Headache Clinic joins Haven Headache & Migraine Center, bringing Haven’s specialist-led, virtual-first model to the state for the first time.

As of October 1, patients can receive care through Haven with Dr. Shirin Issa, a UCNS board-certified headache specialist who has practiced in the Seattle area since 2018 and has joined Haven’s clinical team as its Medical Lead for Washington. Dr. Issa will continue caring for her existing patients while gaining the support of Haven’s broader clinical team.

For current patients, the transition is designed to add support without disrupting the care they already know. Haven is bringing its virtual visit platform, daily headache diary and symptom tracking, specialized nursing support, and ongoing check-ins to Dr. Issa’s practice, giving patients more opportunities to track how their headaches are changing and adjust their care between appointments.

The expansion comes as patients nationwide continue to face limited access to headache specialists. Fewer than 5% of health systems have headache specialists on staff, while patients can wait six to twelve months for an appointment with a specialist. Haven’s model is designed to shorten that wait, with specialist appointments typically available within weeks rather than months.

Dr. Issa brings experience treating a broad range of headache disorders, including migraine, cluster headache, hemicrania continua, and new daily persistent headache. Her practice also includes specialized care for hormonally driven and menstrual migraine, as well as headache management during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

She completed her headache fellowship at Montefiore Headache Center, one of the first centers in the world dedicated exclusively to headache and facial pain, where she also taught headache fellows. Her treatment philosophy combines individualized care with a broad range of options, from vitamins and minerals to medications, Botox, and nerve blocks.

Haven’s virtual-first model is designed to keep patients engaged between visits rather than limiting care to occasional appointments. Patients use a daily text-based diary to track symptoms, medications, and potential triggers, allowing the clinical team to identify patterns and make adjustments to treatment plans as needed. Haven also helps patients navigate insurance requirements, another common barrier to accessing specialty care.

Washington patients will initially receive care virtually. Haven is also working toward offering in-person injection appointments in the state, including nerve blocks and Botox, with the goal of opening those services around the end of 2026 or beginning of 2027.

Bellevue Headache Clinic’s existing patients will continue to see Dr. Issa, and Haven will continue to accept insurance plans currently available through the practice, including Regence, Aetna, Cigna, First Choice Health Network, and Premera Blue Cross. Haven is also working to expand its in-network coverage in Washington to include United Health, Pacific Source Health Plan, Kaiser, Government Employees Health Association, Inc and others.

The move marks Haven’s first expansion outside California and represents another step toward its larger mission: making specialized headache care available to patients who may otherwise spend months searching for a specialist.
