WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Sphnix, Inc. today announced Bhava 2.0, a complete redesign of Bhava, the Kundali matching matrimony app for iPhone. Bhava 2.0 replaces endless browsing with a small, hand-picked "Drop" of introductions every evening at 7, and every person in it has already been scored against the member's birth chart on the 36-point Ashtakoota Milan system, the Guna Milan check Indian families have used for generations. The update also introduces a dedicated view for parents, so families can help a son or daughter find a life partner without ever speaking for them.

Bhava is free to download on the App Store. Bhava 2.0 has been submitted to Apple and will reach existing members as a free update once it is approved.

Kundali matching, done first instead of last

For millions of young Indians, in India and across the diaspora in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, the search for a life partner comes with a question they already know is coming. The profile looks promising, the photos are lovely, the conversation is going well, and then a parent asks: "But did you match kundalis?"

Kundali matching, also called Kundli Milan, Guna Milan or horoscope matching for marriage, compares the birth charts of two people across eight factors, called kootas, and gives a total out of 36 gunas. Many Hindu families consider it an essential step before a marriage conversation goes further. Yet most matrimony apps and dating apps leave it until the very end, after weeks of messages and hope, when a low score or a serious dosha can end things abruptly.

Bhava was built to move that step to the beginning. When someone joins, Bhava calculates their Kundali from the date, time and place of birth they enter. From then on, everyone they are introduced to has already been checked against that chart, and the score is shown on every introduction, for example "28 of 36: strong". People spend their time on matches that could genuinely work, and the "did you match?" conversation with family is already answered.

"Every young Indian has had the same conversation with their mum: nice profile, but did you match kundalis?" said Himanshu Batra, founder of Bhava. "We built Bhava to do that check first. Everyone you meet has already been scored against your Kundali, so you can spend your time on people who could genuinely work, and your family can see the same score you do."

What is Ashtakoota Milan? The 36 gunas explained

Ashtakoota means "eight kootas". Ashtakoota Milan compares the position of the Moon in two birth charts across eight factors. Each koota carries a different weight, and together they add up to 36 points, which is why it is often called 36 Guna Milan. Bhava calculates all eight for every introduction and explains each one in everyday words:

Nadi koota (8 points) relates to health and the wellbeing of future children, and is the factor families weigh most heavily. A score of zero is known as Nadi dosha.

Bhakoot koota (7 points) compares the two Moon signs and is traditionally read as harmony between the two families and in shared finances. Bhakoot matching is one of the most searched parts of Kundali matching, and a score of zero is known as Bhakoot dosha.

Gana koota (6 points) describes temperament, grouping people as Deva, Manushya or Rakshasa: in Bhava's words, angel, human or a little demon. Matching Ganas often means "no petty fights".

Graha Maitri koota (5 points) reflects friendship between the planets that rule each Moon sign, or how easily two minds click.

Yoni koota (4 points) speaks to instinctive and physical compatibility.

Tara koota (3 points) compares birth stars, or nakshatras, and is associated with shared good fortune.

Vashya koota (2 points) describes mutual attraction and the balance of influence in a relationship.

Varna koota (1 point) reflects each person's approach to work and life.

As a general guide, Bhava describes a total of 18 to 23 as a good match, 24 to 31 as a strong match and 32 to 36 as rare. Introductions scoring under 18 are never shown. A zero on Nadi or Bhakoot is traditionally called a dosha, and Bhava always highlights it, even when the total looks high, so families can discuss it with their own astrologer or pandit, including any traditional remedies or cancellation rules they follow. Bhava also shows whether either person is Manglik, so Manglik dosha is part of the same plain-language picture. Charts are calculated with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard used by most Indian astrologers.

What is new in Bhava 2.0

Bhava 2.0 is not an incremental update. Every screen has been redesigned with a new look built for a younger generation: deep ink backgrounds, lilac, lime and pink, and bold, friendly type. Behind the new design are new ways to meet, decide and talk.

Tonight's Drop. Instead of an endless feed, Bhava 2.0 delivers a small set of introductions every evening at 7 pm local time. Free members receive five people each evening, and Bhava Plus members receive seven. Each person is chosen for the member based on Kundali compatibility, distance and recent activity. After the last person, it ends until the next evening: no infinite scrolling, no pressure to keep swiping.

The score, explained in plain words. Every introduction shows its Guna Milan score out of 36 along with short tags for the factors that matter most, such as "Bhakoot 7 of 7: families get along" or "Same Gana: no petty fights". Members can open "You two, in depth" to see all eight kootas explained simply, along with any doshas.

A complete Indian marriage profile. Each introduction opens into a full matrimonial profile designed around how families actually evaluate a match: work and education, background, mother tongue, family details including parents and native place, lifestyle, marriage plans and what the person is looking for in a partner. Birth details are used to calculate the score and are never shown to other members.

Your Kundali and cosmic ID in two minutes. New members see their own "cosmic ID" within the first couple of minutes of signing up: their Moon sign, nakshatra, rising sign and Gana, along with their North Indian style Kundali chart.

Photo verification. Members can verify their photos by taking a quick selfie in a pose Bhava asks for. Each selfie is checked by a person, verified members get a badge, and the selfie is deleted once a decision is made.

Likes and the match moment. A Likes tab shows the people who have already expressed interest. When two people both say yes, Bhava marks the moment with a full-screen "It's written" celebration showing both photos and their score, and a button to say Namaste and start talking.

Chats that keep going. Conversations where it is the member's turn come first. Members can send text, photos and voice notes. Bhava suggests opening lines, offers a light "Kundali truth or myth" game to break the ice and, as a conversation grows, suggests natural next steps such as a video call or a meeting on an auspicious date.

A daily vibe check. A short daily check-in asks a quick question or two and keeps a personal streak going.

Free, with optional Bhava Plus. Bhava remains free to use. The optional Bhava Plus subscription adds two more introductions each evening, shows everyone who has liked the member, lets members say hello first in a new chat, adds a seven-day profile boost and the ability to undo a "not for me", and includes deeper astrology tools such as divisional charts and good dates to meet.

A matrimony app built for parents, on the member's terms

In many Indian families, finding a life partner is a shared effort. Parents, siblings and relatives often know the family networks, ask the important questions and want to help. Most matrimony apps either ignore them or make families share one login, which leaves young people uncomfortable and parents guessing.

Bhava gives families their own place in the search. A son or daughter can invite a parent or relative with a private code. The family member signs in with their own account and sees a calm, larger-type version of Bhava built just for them. In the parents' view, a family member can:

See their child's matches and the people their child has liked, each with its Kundali matching score and a plain-language explanation of all eight kootas.

Use "Check a rishta" to enter the birth details of a proposal that arrived through relatives or on WhatsApp, and instantly see its Guna Milan score against their child's chart, along with the one point most worth discussing with a family pandit.

Leave private notes on a match, with simple tags such as "We like them", "We have a concern" or "We know the family". Only their child can see these notes; the other person never does.

Suggest someone from their own circle, and see whether their child has looked.

Family members can never message a match, can never act as their child and can never read their child's chats, and the member can remove them at any time.

"Parents want to help, and young people want to stay in charge of their own search," Batra said. "The parents' view gives families a real role, with their own login, the same score and the ability to check a rishta in seconds, while the member decides what happens next."

A founder's story

Bhava's founder, Himanshu Batra, describes the app as the meeting point of three worlds he taught himself: programming, which he calls creation; fitness, which he calls destruction; and astrology, the study of time. "Building things taught me that creation is only the beginning," he said. "Keeping an idea alive, through the days when nothing works, is where the real cost is." After a run of failed relationships, Batra taught himself astrology to understand why things fell apart. "What I found was beautiful: a way of understanding two people that our ancestors refined over generations," he said. "Can relationships still break? Of course they can. But the paths our ancestors walked still have so much to teach us. Bhava is the past and the present, moving into the future together, so people can find someone their stars agree with and carry our traditions forward."

Safety and privacy

Bhava 2.0 keeps the safeguards that have defined the app since launch. Members sign in with Apple or Google, and only adults aged 18 and over can join. Photos are screened automatically and reviewed by a person when needed. Every profile and chat includes options to report or block, and blocked people disappear from each other's Drops, Likes and chats. Members can pause their profile to step away, or delete their account and data from Settings. Bhava uses a member's city only to show distance and never displays a home address, and shared images such as the cosmic ID and the match card leave out surnames, contact details and exact birth data.

Kundali matching for Indians abroad

For Indians living abroad, finding a life partner who shares their culture often means juggling family introductions across time zones, proposals forwarded on WhatsApp and matrimony sites built for a different generation. Bhava was designed with that reality in mind. The Drop arrives at 7 pm in each member's own time zone, introductions take distance into account so members meet people nearby first, and the parents' view lets a mother in Delhi and a son in New Jersey look at the same match, with the same Kundali score, at the same time.

For NRI families, "Check a rishta" is especially useful. When a proposal arrives through relatives, a parent can enter the other person's birth details and see the Guna Milan score in seconds, with the most important point to discuss, before anyone books a call.

How to get started

Getting started takes about two minutes. Download Bhava from the App Store and sign in with Apple or Google. Add a first name and a few photos, then enter a date, time and place of birth to see your Kundali and cosmic ID. Learn how the 36-point score works, confirm your phone number and city, and your first Drop arrives that evening at 7. Parents can be invited at any time from the member's profile.

Why an evening Drop instead of endless swiping

Endless feeds make people browse, not decide. A few thoughtful introductions at a predictable time each evening give people the space to consider each person properly. Because every introduction has already passed the Kundali check, each one starts from a stronger place.

Frequently asked questions
